away from january 1, 2013. one of the hot spots to be tonight is the inner harbor. sarah samson joins us live from there. i assume the excitement is still building down there. >> absolutely. the crowds have been picking up over the last hour or so. there is lots of enthusiasm out here, with less than 60 minutes to go before downtown baltimore wellcome's 2013. whether they came by water or stay on land, according to organizers, tens of thousands are ringing in 2013 at the baltimore city and new year's spectacular. it is hard to miss the enthusiasm. >> this is my first time without my children. i could not be happier here. >> it is a huge economic boon for downtown.

less than an hour. there is certainly a lot going on down here and a lot still left to do before we bring in 2013. sarah samson, wbal-tv 11 news. >> at midnight tonight, maryland will usher in a new era. gay couples will be able to get legally married in our state. the law will officially go into effect and thousands of people are expected to seize the moment. nadia met one of those couples that is getting ready for their big day. >> wedding bells are in the air. after nearly six years together, amanda and april are rehearsing for their special day. they are just one of many couples set to tie the knot on tuesday when same sex marriage in maryland becomes legal. >> to be legally married under

harford county police say he opened fire on his own sister during a family argument just before midnight saturday in edgewood. we are told that his sister was shot in the lower back but is expected to survive. burley is set to be 510 and 140 pounds. anyone who sees him should call 911 immediately. tiffany alston has yet to comment after a story that claimed she declared bankruptcy before running for her seat. the article says she is more than $182,000 in debt. she pled no contest earlier this year to using campaign money to pay for wedding expenses. a jury also found her guilty of using state money to pay an employee in her firm. in 2012, we experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly. a missed field goal ending the

killed two teenagers just before they headed back to college. the first day of school in baltimore county turned into a day of violence when a 16-roll student, robert gladden, fired a shotgun in the cafeteria. >> i just ran out. i didn't know what it was. >> the shot hit daniel borowy, a student with down syndrome. daniel was released and robert gladden was arrested. art modell palace -- passed away in early september. he was 87. an exciting call for orioles fans as the team made their first playoff run in 15 years. they were so close to the american league championship when they fell to the yankees in the final game of their series. the last few days of october, superstorm sandy pounded the east coast. ocean city was the hardest hit in our area.

a lot of that cold air would cause a problem if it started to mix with this. it looked a little threatening today and there were some echoes showing up on the radar a little while ago. the air is so dry, that most of this activity was evaporating before it hit the ground. there is nothing showing up right now. a slight chance of a sprinkle or flurry as we head into tomorrow morning. as this gets closer to us, we will take the chance for rain or snow shower up to about 30% or 40% tomorrow. temperatures are not bad for this time of year for people out and about celebrating. 37 at the airport, 36 in westminster, 35 right now and
parked in. tomorrow, the first-ever the new year, the storm will pass south of us. the temperature is behind this front are pretty cold but we will not get into the core of that cold air mass. the forecast looks like this, mostly cloudy for the rest of tonight. a sprinkle or snow flurry with temperatures holding steady at the lower end of the 30's. tomorrow, a mix of clouds and a little sun. high temperature is between 37- 42 degrees. the average high this time of year is 42 so we will be below the mark all through the weekend. a couple little storms coming in thursday and another one on sunday. 30% chance for rain or snow shower both of those days. sunday is the ravens game, so we will watch that. right now it looks like one of the smaller storms could change things as we head into the weekend. >> the best moments a baltimore sports this year, a champagne
